Dream Sequence @ Chain Reaction - March 22, 2007

by Jenn Freire

Beginning with the song, "Child of Glass," Dream Sequence immobilized itself as products of the rebirth of synthesized sound during this recent show at Chain Reaction. Lead singer Omar Garza used his sex-pop antics to encourage the crowd to dance along and the crowd willingly obeyed. With lyrics like, "She is so fragile, I'm afraid to touch her/ Her face is clear, clear as glass/ When I look at her I see right through her pretty face/ That's when I realized she's a child/ A child of glass," fans become part of the show, mouthing the words and dancing along. David Gill brought a dark, but strong upbeat presence to the song with his mixture of sequencer and synth. Later, he transfixed the audience with sensual hooks and in-your-face distorted guitar. Not to be outdone, Steve Vidaurrazaga added an exciting blend of electronic and live drums to the mix. Laura Griffith displayed her many attributes as a keyboardist, bassist and backup singer.

With the final song, "X's and O's," the carnal heaviness of the pulsating synth beat brought the audience from reality to an erotic jaunt of sexual innuendo, finishing off in pure climatic style, yet leaving them wanting more.
